ABOUT THE BURSAR
Gibela is a South African company who will be responsible for building new passenger trains over the next decade in South Africa. In 2013, Gibela signed a contract with PRASA (Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa) to replace old train equipment with modern equipment.
The Gibela bursary will be awarded to students who excel academically as they will be the future of the company.
ABOUT THE BURSARY
Bursaries will be awarded within the following fields of study:
University/ University of Technology students:
- Accounting
- Computer Science/ IT (Information Technology)
- Electrical Engineering
- Electronic Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Metallurgical Engineering
- Supply chain
TVET College students:
- Boiler-makers
- Control and Instrumentation Technicians
- Electricians
- Fitters and Turners
- Mechanics
- Millwrights
- Pattern-makers
- Plumbers
- Vehicle Builders
- Welders
Gibela bursaries are granted for one year of study, renewable annually based on the students academic results.
The bursary will cover the following expenses: tuition fees and a book allowance.
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying:
- South African citizen
- Proven financial need
- University/ University of Technology students (current or prospective):
- Completed Matric
- Achieved a minimum of level 6 for Matric Accounting, Mathematics and Science
- Achieved a minimum of level 5 for Matric English
- Been accepted to study at a University/ University of Technology in South Africa
- Been accepted to study in one of the aforementioned fields of study
- Current National Diploma (S1/S2) students and degree (first and second year) students are encouraged to apply
- TVET College students (current or prospective):
- Completed Matric
- Achieved a minimum of level 4 for Matric English, Mathematics and Science
- Been accepted to study at a TVET College in South Africa
- Been accepted to study in one of the aforementioned fields of study
- Current N3/N4 students are encouraged to apply
