ABOUT THE BURSAR
The Department of Military Veterans is the governmental department in South Africa responsible for providing South African military veterans with support and services. The current political head of the department is Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula – the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans.
ABOUT THE BURSARY
The Department of Military Veterans are offering bursaries to Military Veterans and their dependants – in both basic (Grade 1 to 12) and tertiary education.
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying:
- South African citizen
- Basic education bursary:
- registered Military Veteran dependant
- applicable for students from Grade 1 – 12
- Higher education bursary:
- available to Military veterans and their dependants registered on the DMV database
HOW TO APPLY
Download and complete the DMV Basic Education Bursary Application Form (pdf) or the DMV Higher Education Bursary Application Form (pdf).
Please include the following items in your application pack:
- NSFAS Application Form (pdf)
- ID document (certified copy)
- Unabridged birth certificate (showing parents details)
- Latest results (mid year)
- Proof of acceptance to study at an institution next year
- Proof of residence
- Military Veterans ID Document (certified copy) or Death Certificate (certified copy) if deceased
- Parent/ Guardian ID Document (certified copy) if they are not a Military Veteran but applying on behalf of a Military Veteran
- Military Veteran/ Guardian proof of income (latest payslip if employed/ affidavit if unemployed)
- Military Veteran/ Guardian latest 3 months bank statements
