ABOUT THE BURSAR
KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) is one of the nine provinces in South Africa, located on the southeast side of the country and bordering three other countries, namely Swaziland; Lesotho and Mozambique. Pietermaritzburg is the capital and Durban is the largest city within this province.
ABOUT THE BURSARY
Bursaries will be awarded to students who are studying (or intend on studying) within the Health Sciences faculty, specifically in the following fields:
- Audiology
- Dietetics
- Health Promotion
- Medicine
- Occupational Therapy
- Optometry
- Pharmacy
- Physiotherapy
- Radiography (Diagnostic and Ultrasound)
- Speech Therapy
The amount of bursary cover will be determined by parents/ guardians annual combined income:
R0 – R120 000 = you will receive cover for tuition, prescribed books, accommodation and meals.
R121 000 – R150 000 = you will receive cover for tuition, accommodation and meals.
R151 000 – R200 000 = you will receive cover for tuition, prescribed books, accommodation.
R201 000 – R250 000 = you will receive cover for tuition and accommodation.
R251 000 – R300 000 = you will receive cover for tuition only.
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying:
- KwaZulu-Natal resident,
- 35 years old or younger,
- Strong academic record,
- Achieved a minimum level 4 or “D” symbol in all subjects,
- Proof of application or registration at a tertiary institution,
- Not have completed another diploma or degree,
- Prove financial need
HOW TO APPLY
Please obtain an application form from your closest Government Hospital, Human Resource Department in KwaZulu-Natal. Application forms are available between 1 May and 31 August annually. You will be required to attach the following to your application:
- ID document (certified copy),
- Parents/ guardians ID documents (certified copies),
- Parents/ guardians recent payslips or other proof of income,
- Matric results certificate (certified copy).
Complete application forms and supporting documents must be delivered to the same hospital.
