Emergency Medical Care
Diploma in Emergency Medical Care (Self-pay programme)
Two-year programme
On completion of this programme the learner will be eligible to register as an Emergency Care Technician.

Entry requirement
Grade 12 with admission to a Diploma or equivalent with an average of 50% and in the case of a Vocational National certificate an average of 50% is required. If you are currently in Grade 11, submit your year end results for Grade 11. Candidates with relevant EMS experience can apply for RPL.
National senior certificate
- Physical science – NQF Level 4 with minimum of 40%
- Mathematics – NQF Level 4 with minimum of 40% or
- English communication skills – NQF Level 4 with minimum of 40%
- Computer Literacy – NQF Level 3 with a minimum of 40%
- South African citizenship
National Vocational certificate
- Physical science – NQF Level 4 with a minimum of 50%
- Mathematics – NQF Level 4 with a minimum of 50% or
- English communication skills – NQF Level 4 with a minimum of 50%
- Computer Literacy – NQF Level 3 with a minimum of 40%
- South African citizenship
Recognition of Prior Learning minimum requirements
- Have a valid Matric (grade 12) with admission to diploma or equivalent with 50% average or old senior certificate: D-aggregate (950 marks)
- Be 25 years and older
- Be a registered Ambulance Emergency Assistant (AEA) with the HPCSA
- Have a minimum of 5 years operational experience
- Be currently employed by an Emergency Medical Service
- Write and pass a theory and clinical assessments

Operating Department Assistant
Diploma in Operating Department Assistance
Three-year programme
On completion of the programme, the learner will be able to work in the theatres as an Operating Department Assistant. The learner will however not be eligible to register at any of the existing professional councils.
