IIE Fundamentals of SA Legal System
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this module is to introduce students to an overview of the SA legal system, its historical origins and the implication of its historical antecedents for first identifying the legal question and then locating the law – the sources of our law in other words. The module will also situate the SA law and legal system in the context of the new Constitutional dispensation. This higher certificate develops and provides students with a broad range of foundational legal skills including communication, various aspects of South African law and legal office management.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
For those with the skills, drive and initiative, the legal work environment is a place of great opportunity and reward. Students interested in commencing or furthering a career within the legal environment should attend.
DURATION
Lectures are conducted once a week in the evening or on a Saturday morning over 13 weeks.
ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
Students should meet the following requirements:
- Be proficient in English.
- Should have three to four years work experience.
- Must be able to prepare for lectures and engage in self-directed study outside the classroom and be prepared for dynamic discussion in the classroom.
PROGRAMMES MATERIAL
The SLP fee includes all programme material, which becomes the property of the student. This material constitutes a valuable source of ongoing reference.
PROGRAMME EVALUATION
The completion of assignments, tests and examinations.
