IIE Introduction To Public Relations
INTRODUCTION
The general purpose of this short learning programme (SLP) is to introduce working professionals from various programmes (i.e. not public relations professionals) to the field and discipline of public relations. The learning units and outcomes are structured in such a way as to ensure a progression in the student’s basic knowledge and understanding of the nature of public relations.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
- Those who wish to understand the theoretical concepts, functions and techniques of public relations within a range of organisational frameworks.
- Those who want to learn and understand the relationships between public relations and internal and external stakeholders in the communicative context of the organisation.
- Those who want a broader knowledge of professionalism and business etiquette in the workplace.
- Those wishing to learn personal and presentation skills that contribute to professional public relations.
- Those who want to apply theoretical concepts to implement a public relations event and learn to use the correct document formats in the implementation of an event.
DURATION
Introduction to Public Relations is offered once a week in the evening or on a Saturday morning over 11 weeks.
PROGRAMME MATERIAL
The SLP fee includes all programme material, which becomes the property of the student. This material constitutes a valuable source of on-going reference.
PROGRAMME EVALUATION
The SLP assessment involves an assignment, test and a formal examination at the close of the programme.

CERTIFICATION
Introduction to Public Relations is a short learning programme (SLP) that is certified by The Independent Institute of Education and endorsed by the Chartered Institute of Business Management (CIBM). Students enrolled in this SLP can apply, on successful completion, for recognition of the learning achieved, for the equivalent module offered on a full time qualification, when registering for any other IIE programmes.

All SLPs that are available through The Business School at Varsity College have been specifically designed for working adults. These SLPs differ from The IIE full qualifications that are also available through Varsity College and which are registered on the National Qualifications Framework.
