Admission

pplication for admission to the MDEV (Planning and Management) Programme is subject to strict evaluation and selection is based on the candidate’s academic achievement, experience, attitude and motivation for further study.

Requirements:-

a)Honours degree or equivalent qualification

b)Relevant experience within a development management context will be an added advantage

c)Candidates are also required to submit:

A detailed CV

Letter from the employer confirming that they will be allowed to attend classes.

Duration

TGSL 10

Rules FML 2, FML 8, and G 10 refer.

The minimum period of the programme is one year and the maximum period is three years.

Registration and Renewal of Registration

TGSL 11

Rules FML 2, FML 3, G 37 and G 38 refer.

In addition the following registration requirements will apply:-

(i)A prescribed load for the first semester is five modules plus a mini-dissertation (compulsory year module) and for the second semester is five modules.

(ii)A candidate requires the permission of the Director of the School to carry an additional load. Only one extra module per year is permitted.

(iii)For a mini-dissertation there will be an internal and external assessor.

(iv)A candidate who fails all modules in the first semester of the first year will be deregistered from the programme and cannot be admitted in the programme again in future.

(v)A student who fails four or more modules in any given year will be deregistered from the programme and cannot be admitted in the programme again in future.

(vi)During registration, failed modules will be registered first before any approval for registration of modules in the subsequent year. Modules registered should not exceed the limit as per (i) above.

(vii)The Research Proposal must be submitted and considered by the School Higher Degrees Committee (SHDC) during the first year of study.

(viii)The mini-dissertation must be submitted within 6 months after the summative assessment of the course work.

(ix)Students must please note the following general rule: G20.2 refers: “A student who has failed any module twice will not be allowed to present that module a third time for the summative assessment and will have his/her studies discontinued”.

Assessment

Rules FML 4, G 39 to G 41, G 50 to G 52 refer.

Different methods of assessment (e.g. class tests, essays, orals, semester tests and practicals) will be used in different modules and will be indicated in the various module descriptions provided that the assessment will at least include one semester test and two other methods of assessment. Summative assessment will take place at the end of the semester. In order to pass a module, the candidate needs a Final Mark of 50%. This mark is made up of a combination of the Formative Assessment Mark 60% and the Summative Assessment Mark 40%.

Admission to the Summative Assessment

In order to be admitted to the summative assessment in any module, a minimum formative mark of 40% is required. Furthermore, a candidate for MDEV Degree is not allowed to present himself/herself for summative assessment, unless he/she has, through attendance of lectures (at least 75% in a particular module) and the proper execution of his/her work, prepared himself/herself satisfactorily for such an assessment, or instead of the attendance, he/she has satisfactorily done any other work required by Senate.
