GSB Managing Power Sector Reform and Regulation

GSB Managing Power Sector Reform and Regulation

Leaders, managers and professionals in infrastructure sectors around the world are facing new and complex challenges. The old model of state-owned, vertically integrated utilities is giving way to hybrid models with increased private sector participation and competition. New regulatory regimes are being put in place and reformed utilities need to deliver expanded and affordable services for the poor, while underpinning and supporting economic growth. Renewable energy is reaching grid-parity, distributed generation is on the rise and new reform and regulatory models need to be explored to accelerate investment and to manage power systems effectively.
This programme, focused on Africa’s needs, exposes participants to the frontiers of international experience, including new research on the “Utility of the Future”. Leading international experts are part of the teaching faculty. A number of case studies from Africa will be presented. Participants will also be given a thorough grounding in the fundamentals and practice of economic regulation of utilities.
This course is offered by the Management Programme in Infrastructure Reform and Regulation (MIR) at the GSB, a leading centre of excellence and expertise in Africa and emerging economies. The course is run in partnership with the African Forum of Utility Regulators and the Regional Electricity Regulators Association.
