The School of Nursing Science provides education and training of international quality to undergraduate and postgraduate students. Nursing is a dynamic profession with opportunities for specialization after completing the basic Nursing degree. Dedicated, competent staff ensures that students are equipped with competence, responsibility, authority and accountability after registration as a professional nurse at the South African Nursing Council.

Nursing Programmes
The School of Nursing Science of the North-West University (Potchefstroom Campus) has presented postbasic nursing programmes since 1997. These programmes are presented through distance education at study centers throughout South Africa. It started from humble beginnings with five study centers to the current 35 study centers. Contact sessions are conducted on Saturdays, providing support to students through facilitation and group discussions. Both students and facilitators are empowered to gain updated knowledge in their fields of interest.
These intensive learning programmes ensured success for many. During the semester, students complete assignments, write tests and exams for summative and formative evaluation. The academic content is of high quality and the commitment of facilitators and students as well as the provision of a training solution to adult learners ensures an approximately passing rate of 70%.

Successful completion of this Advanced University Diploma will enable you to register with SANC in the field of Clinical Nursing Science, Health Assessment, Treatment and Care.
Admission criteria
- registered with the SANC in the field of General Nursing as well as Midwifery;
- your current employer should give written permission for further studies;
- you should be working in a comprehensive primary health care clinic;
- you should be able to work 960 hours of clinical practica during the year;
- undergo a selection process.
G515T is only available where SANC / NWU accreditation has been obtained. A limited number of students can be accommodated for this course per study centre.
