What is Educational Studies
Educational Studies emerged due to final configuration of Faculties in 2007. The department offers Initial Professional Education and Training (IPET) such as the Bachelor of Education specialisations (B. Ed specialisations) and Continuing Professional Training and Development (CPTD) specialisations such as the Bachelor of Education (B. Ed honours), Advance Certificate in Education specialisations (ACE: specialisations) Masters in Education (M. Ed) and Doctoral in Education (D. Ed). It is compulsory for the IPET students to register for the General Subject Didactics and Teaching Practice which is distinguishing fields of the departments from other fields of study. Specialisations in this department include subjects such as Accounting in Education, Economics in Education, Computer Sciences as well as Computer Application Technology. The B. Ed (GET Intermediate and Senior phases) include subjects specialisations such as Mathematics, Technology in Education and Entrepreneurship. A new qualification, B.Ed. (GET: Foundation Phase) has been introduced and forms part of the European Union nationally with other Higher Education Institutions offering teacher education. This qualification has programmes in the fields of numeracy, literacy and life orientations. An Advance Diploma in Education (formerly known as the Postgraduate Certificate in Education; PGCE: FET), a blocked based qualification, completed over two years is a new specialisation. It is designed for candidates who have already completed an initial degree in any field other education, who wants to become qualified teachers in schools.
