Contemporary art practitioners, such as artists and curators, play a central role in the creation and critique of culture – thereby often shaping our future in significant ways. It is from this awareness that the Cape Town Creative Academy developed – with input from practising artists, curators, gallerists and educators – our new offering: a Bachelor of Arts in Contemporary Art.
This unique degree is the first Cape Town Creative Academy Bachelor Of Arts In Contemporary Art  programme in South Africa, and was developed in direct response to the evolving needs and demands of the regional, national and international art world and its many diverse sectors.
This three-year programme comprises a balance of practice-based learning, theoretical inquiry, technical development, innovative experimentation, critical reflexivity and business acumen.
Students are exposed to a wide range of conceptual frameworks and various modes of meaning-making in order to develop independent ideas and practices that respond to the social, political, economic and technological contexts that frame the art world in the twenty first century.
THE VALUE AND IMPORTANCE OF ART AND ARTISTS
Art serves to connect. Through the reflexivity of art-making, artists are able to develop an ongoing conversation with, and greater awareness of, self and others. Through the criticality of the practice, art helps to foster important and difficult dialogues by bringing shared concerns into shared spaces. Artists make acute observations in order to document, comment on and reflect history as it happens. Artists connect diverse groups of people in ways that enhance community engagement. Artists ask questions that spur new ways of seeing and thinking. This ability to observe, connect and question make artists valuable contributors to the cultural industry. These unique attributes processed by art school graduates are currently opening up more doors than ever before with the need for conceptual thinking and creative problem solving being widely recognised by the creative, and corporate sector alike.
