South Cape TVET College Campuses
BEAUFORT WEST CAMPUS
At 260km away from the Central Office in George, this is the most remote campus of the South Cape College. Beaufort West has been declared a nodal area for development and assistance. South Cape College is responding with initiatives to react to this need. Engineering, Entrepreneurship and skills training are being promoted to provide the competencies and job opportunities to fully exploit the limited economic circumstances that prevail.
The provision of skills-training is an identified priority for Beaufort West Campus to empower the community by improving employability, thereby providing marketable skills that can be utilized by business and industry.
Not only will skills training empower the local community by improving their employability but thanks to the entrepreneurial possibilities created by many of SCC’s courses, students may be able to become self-employed. In fact, they may even eventually be in a position develop their own enterprises – and become employers in their own right.
BITOU CAMPUS
Plettenberg Bay may be one of South Africa’s premier vacation destinations – but the Bitou campus is hard at work, with various skills course being offered by the Innovation and Development Department. In the space of only a few years, South Cape College has formed an effective partnership with local authorities to establish a dynamic TVET facility – with further developments planned.
Although it has only been a couple of years since its official launch, a huge amount of students passed through the capable hands of the lecturers / facilitators at the Campus.
Soon this Campus with its beautiful setting will be able to offer even more to the public with various expansions planned that started with the building of new classrooms and a training kitchen.
GEORGE CAMPUS
The George College was established as a part time institution and started offering classes for the first time in January 1968. In 1976 the first full time principal took office and the first full time students were enrolled. In 1987 the college moved to its current premises in Hibernia Street and in 1996 a new wing, comprising of eight new classrooms, a new administration block and an ablution block was added.
The campus operation offers full-time tuition and has established an excellent reputation, locally and nationally. A recent survey has also shown that over 95% of its students have secured employment within a year of qualifying.
The Future: The South Cape College George Campus hopes in the near future to become an institution of world-class education. With our courses adapting on a yearly basis to workplace demands, the constant purchase of the latest equipment and lecturers with practical business experience, our students are equipped to take the business world by storm.
HESSEQUA CAMPUS
This campus is another example of what can be achieved when a TVET college, local authorities and Provincial Government take hands for the benefit of the area. Established with ex-MEC of Education in the Western Cape, Mr Cameron Dugmore, it is situated in the picturesque town of Riversdale. Various skills courses have been offered through the Innovation & Development Department.
The Innovation and Development is very active at Hessequa and a significant number of students have already received skills courses from the lecturers and facilitators.
OUDTSHOORN CAMPUS
The Oudtshoorn Campus is the only multi-purpose training and education institution in the Klein Karoo, offering Technical, Vocational Education and Training, College and University levels of training. The Oudtshoorn Technical College was established after the local authorities had to close down the Commercial High School and the infrastructure became available. Community leaders identified the opportunity to utilize the building to offer tertiary education, alongside the TVET-programmes, to local and surrounding disadvantaged, less privileged and poor communities.
As a TVET institution, they firmly believe in the developmental value of career training through effective partnerships. Partnerships have been secured to ensure accredited, quality and affordable education. Currently this campus has partnerships with the University of the Free State.
As an TVET College, much attention is also given to skills and learner ships, advancing people towards a fully accredited qualification. All their programmes are SAQA (South African Qualification Authority) accredited. Academic staff are regularly advised on business trends by relevant industries through a system of advisory committees representing the business community. They pride themselves on being able to offer affordable training opportunities which have the same academic value of other tertiary institutions. A student counseling programme ensures individual attention for students.
Student Residence is available at Oudtshoorn Campus.
MOSSEL BAY CAMPUS
In Mossel Bay, the support and encouragement of several courageous men led to the establishment of what is today known as the Mossel Bay Campus of South Cape College. This Campus delivers excellent service to our immediate area, the Klein Karoo and across the entire South Africa.
Tuition started in one classroom with post school technical training. It was the intention to allow students from previously disadvantaged groups to have access to training so that qualifications could be upgraded and skills be acquired.
Thanks to the generous support of Petro SA, which donated a well equipped computer centre, and a number of other firms that contributed towards the setting up of an electronics workshop, the Mossel Bay campus is currently the only TVET facility between Port Elizabeth and Cape Town offering technical programmes with e-learning facilities.
Student Residence is available at Mossel Bay Campus.
