Bishops Diocesan College

An Offer of Place letter from the Principal will initiate the final stage of the Admission process. Preference is given to siblings of boys already in the school and to sons of old boys. Thereafter, offers of place are based on a number of factors and are at the discretion of the Admissions Committee. Parents to whom offers have been sent by the Principal have to sign an ‘Acceptance of Place’ form and return it together with proof of payment of the non-refundable placement fee to secure their son’s place at the school. Bishops reserves the right to conduct a credit enquiry on parents of prospective pupils. The entrance procedure differs for each section of our school.

Grade N
Entrance to Grades N follows a process of interview. This is undertaken by the Headmaster of the Prep and the Pre-Prep staff. Offers for Grade N are made well in advance.

Grades R to 2
Entrance to these grades follows a process of interview and testing. Offers can only be made if boys are withdrawn from the school.

Grades 3 to 7
Entrance to the Prep follows a process of interview and testing. This is undertaken by the Prep School Headmaster and staff.  Offers can only be made if boys are withdrawn from the school.

Grade 8
Entrance to Grade 8 has a set procedure to ensure a fair offer being made to all those who apply. There are 150 Grade 8 places on offer each year, and over 260 Grade 7 candidates from a large number of prep schools typically apply for these places.

The year before admission, applicants who have already registered at Bishops will be invited by email to sit the Bishops Entrance Examination. A small fee is charged. This exam is followed in some cases by interviews, but in all cases, the prep schools are asked to complete a confidential questionnaire on each candidate’s performance and achievements at prep school. Offers of place are made towards the end of May annually.

Grades 9 to 11
Place offers for Grades 9 to 11 can only be made if current pupils are withdrawn from the school, as all grades commence each year fully subscribed.

Bursaries Bishops Diocesan College

Legacy Bursaries

Following the Bishops 2010 Conference, a limited number of bursaries may be awarded each year to talented boys coming from disadvantaged backgrounds who are either exceptional scholars, or who are recommended by provincial or national sports bodies, or who possess exceptional musical talents. Parents are expected to contribute towards school fees according to their means.

Talent/Need Bursaries

These bursaries are awarded by the school to exceptionally talented boys from any background who are in financial need and who, in the opinion of the school, would benefit from a Bishops education and would add value to the school, funds permitting. Parents are expected to contribute towards school fees.

Compassionate bursaries

These bursaries may be awarded to boys already at the school, who for unforeseen reasons are temporarily unable to meet the school fees. Applications should be made to the Finance Manager on the appropriate form available from the Admissions Secretary.

Sports Bursaries

We regret the school is unable to offer specific ‘sports bursaries’. Please refer to Talent/Need and 2010 bursaries above.
