What is Uber Eat Driver?
Uber Eats drivers are independent contractors who are paid to pick up and drop off food orders, similar to driving for Postdates and Door Dash.
How To Register For Uber Eat Driver In South Africa?
The Uber Eats registration process is simple. Once your account has been created, we will guide you by email throughout your registration in order to know your progress and the next steps to complete. Please note that an Uber Eats account is strictly personal and cannot in any way be shared with another person.
Here’s everything you need to know to complete your Uber Eats registration.
Step 1:
Download the Uber Driver App from your App Store or Google Play.
Step 2:
Sign in or Register.
To register you must:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have a motorbike or car.
Tip: Sign up with your full name and surname as per your identification document.
Step 3:
Select your city you’ll be operating in:

Step 6:
Safety screening
- A clear safety screening is required to deliver with Uber Eats.

Step 7:
Upload your motorbike or car documents to add a vehicle to your profile.
Step 8:
Once uploaded, your documents will be reviewed and approved.
Your registration process is then complete and your account is set up.
Just remember! There may be delays in your activation.
We are not always adding new couriers. So you may not immediately be activated once you have signed up. Always keep your contact details updated so that we can get in touch when there is a demand in your area.
Step 9:
An insulated delivery bag is required for Uber Eats deliveries.
You will receive a link to purchase a bag when your account is ready.
Just remember! Do not purchase a bag before receiving communication to do so.
Step 10:
After collecting your bag, your account will be completed within 24 to 48 hours.
You will then be ready to receive orders and start earning!
Document requirements
South African Drivers License (Code B/C/EB/EC)
- Uber Eats: South African Drivers License Code B, C1, EB, EC
- Take a clear photo/scan of the front of your license.
- Ensure there is no glare on the photo of your license.
- Ensure the photo on your license is clear.
- No photocopies will be accepted.
- Your document will not be accepted if it cannot be read properly or all four corners are not visible.
South African ID/Passport
- Take a clear photo/scan of the front of your ID/Passport
- Ensure there is no glare on the photo

Safety Screening
A clear background record is required to deliver with Uber Eats. Please ensure you give the supplier the correct email address that you have access to.

- Upload a screenshot of the report emailed to you or take a clear photo of the printed report.

Vehicle Inspection Report
To complete your vehicle inspection visit any DEKRA or Tiger Wheel & Tyre location and request an Uber Eats inspection report.

Once you’ve gotten your inspection:
- Upload a clear photo of your vehicle inspection report
- Ensure the registration number matches the registration number added on your profile.
- Ensure the make matches the make added on your profile.

- Your document will not be accepted if it cannot be read properly or all four corners are not visible.
Vehicle License Disc
- Upload a clear photo of your vehicle license disc
- Ensure the registration number matches the registration number added on your profile.
- Ensure the make matches the make added on your profile.
- Please make sure that all details are visible, easily readable and not blurry.
- Your document will not be accepted if it cannot be read properly
Have a Vehicle
- Have a 2 door or 4 door car
- Your vehicle will need a vehicle inspection report for activation. (See Vehicle inspection report).
How do I activate Uber Eats as a Driver?
How to start delivering using the Uber Eats app
- Tap the status bar at the bottom of your map screen.
- Select the settings icon at the bottom of your screen to get to Driving Preferences.
- Tap Deliveries to turn on Uber Eats. If you accept the terms, you’ll start receiving delivery requests.
What documents I need to register at Uber Eats?
*To register as a delivery partner with Uber Eats, you must be at least 18 years old.
Vehicle Inspection Certificate or Proof of Receipt of a Light Vehicle
- Make sure the name on document matches the name on your Uber account.
- Make sure the photo is not blurry and all the details are clearly seen.
How long does it take to get approved for Uber Eats?
It takes up to 10 business days to start driving for Uber Eats. However, most new drivers report that they get approval in two to five days.
The reason it takes some time to become an Uber Eats driver is because they screen all drivers and (as you mentioned) run background checks.
How long does Uber take to approve documents?
Uber, technically speaking, can take up to 24 hours to approve your documents. Having said this, in our experience, it takes customers between 0.5 – 5 hours.
