About Durban University of Technology Confucius Institute
Overview
On the morning of March 26, 2013, under the co-witness of the visiting Chinese President Mr Xi Jinping and South African President Mr Jacob Zuma, Confucius Institute(CI) at DUT was established during the China President’s first diplomatic visit after his inauguration. And in February, 2014,it formally started its functioning at DUT.
DUT CI currently has a Chinese Culture Experience Center, a Chinese Language and Culture Resource Center and other teaching facilities in M L Sultan Campus.
Main functions and services of DUT CI: offering different mandarin courses for DUT Community, middle and primary school students, and local community, including all levels of mandarin courses, Chinese culture courses, specially designed business mandarin course and tourist mandarin course; introducing China and Chinese culture; organizing series of Chinese cultural events; training local mandarin teachers; organizing vocational and technical training; holding Chinese Proficiency Tests like HSK, HSKK, etc.; organizing student Summer/Winter Camp to China; assist CI learner to apply for CI scholarships either from the headquarters or from Chinese universities; promoting cooperation and programs between DUT and FAFU; facilitating educational, cultural and academic exchanges between South Africa and China universities, Durban and Fuzhou in China, and KwaZulu-Natal and China Fujian Province.
