This is the required licence for a career pilot. The CPL allows you to be employed as a pilot, earning money, hours and experience all at the same time. With a Commercial Pilot Licence you will be able to fly for various types of operators such as charter companies or VIP’s in the corporate sector.

The Commercial Pilots Licences is the career bedrock on which all young inspiring, career aviators start their journey in becoming an airline captain or you may choose a career in Flight Instruction or “Bush” flying then the CPL is for you.

  • Requirements

  • Minimum age of 18 years
  • Valid class 1 medical certificate
  • Valid PPL with Night Rating
  • General radio licence (complete the Radio Telephony course and exam)

  • Theory

Pass the following theoretical examinations as per SA CAA:

  • Aircraft Technical and General
  • Air Law
  • Meteorology
  • Human Performance and Limitations
  • Flight Planning
  • Navigation
  • Radio Aids
  • Instruments

  • Practical

  • 200 hours total flight time
  • 100 hours Pilot in Command (PIC) time
  • 5 hours night PIC time
  • 20 hours cross-country flight time
  • 20 hours instrument flight training
  • 5 hours flight training on a complex aircraft
  • Pass the CPL flight test as per SA CAA
