The qualification in Southern Africa is provided in 4 levels:
CIS Professional qualification
- Program 1: Management and Administration
- Program 2: Governance and Administration
- Program 3: CIS Advanced Qualification- Governance and Administration
- Program 4: CIS Public Sector Governance
Students are thus employable at any stage during their studies. Chartered Secretaries work in public as well as private companies and Corporate Secretarial Firms. CSSA requires you to have interest in business and the economy, confidence to communicate with people, efficient organisational ability and strict attention to detail.
After completing the CSSA International Qualification Board Examination and obtaining the relevant work experience you will become a member of the Institute and a Chartered Secretary. This title comes with a high level of respect and demands as it puts you in the forefront of governance issues. The specific responsibilities of a Chartered Secretary vary depending upon the level of the job role, the size of the organisation and the sector in which it operates. Company secretaries are the Primary Source of advice on the conduct of business and this can span from Legal, Compliance and Accounting Advice to the development of strategy. The company secretary forms an important link between the Board of Directors and values other departments in the company and also ensures goods relations with shareholders and the public.
