Fortis Hotels In-Service Traineeship Programme embarking on the next phase
The Fortis Hotels In-Service Traineeship Programme has been underway for the first part of 2024. The Fortis In-Service Trainees underwent an Orientation Year with the Fortis group whereby they were exposed to the different departments of the hotel facilities. This year-long introduction to the hospitality industry has ensured that the In-Service Trainees are familiar with the brand-requirements as well as the demands which are associated with this industry.
The Fortis Hotel Group consist of six Protea branded hotels. These include the Protea Hotel Capital, Protea Hotel Highveld, Protea Hotel Hunters Rest, Protea Hotel Malaga, Protea Hotel Manor and Protea Hotel Witbank. In-Service Trainees are placed within the various properties; and rotated among the departments.
The Capital Hotel School’s Training Academy has facilitated the first phase of the training in accordance with the City & Guilds Skills Foundation & Proficiency programme in Food Preparation and Cooking. All the trainees attended a two-week “block release”, during June, in which they attended practical and theoretical lectures as well as underwent practical assessments.
There were a few surprising food creations and the trainees outdid themselves during this session of training.
On Monday, 22 August and Tuesday, 23 August the trainees attended the Introduction to the next phase of the training programme; the City & Guilds Hospitality Certificate Programmes (in conjunction with the CATHSSETA-accredited Hospitality Certificate programmes).
The tight-knit group of Trainees have been divided into their respective specialisations; Hospitality Management and Professional Cookery.
The Traineeship programme was especially developed to include on-the-job tasks and self-assessment exercises to ensure that the learning is accessible and relevant to their specific needs “in the industry”.
Mrs Lee Van Deventer will facilitate the Food and Beverage Service certificate together with Miss Meri Lodewyks who will facilitate the Front Office Services and Accommodation Services certificates.
The three chef-trainees will receive “masterclasses” and assessment of their practical skills by Chef Ulric Kiefer and the CHS-chef team.
