Apprenticeship Programme
Apprenticeship programmes are open to the youth under the age of 35 years.
Apprenticeship programmes span a period of 18-36 months divided into 3 phases. The programmes are open to successful Grade 12 learners and people with N3. On completion of the respective trade curricula, the students are offered the opportunity to undergo a trade test assessment. Placement is vacancy driven.
Apprenticeship Training |

Description: | Vocational Training in 14 Trades Welding, Electrician, Electromechanician, Wagon Fitter, Vehicle Builder, Diesel Electrical Fitter, Electrical Fitter, Turner Machinist, Armature Winder, Millwright etc. |

Engineer in Training (EIT) Programme
After completing four years study (theoretical component), engineering students studying through the Universities of Technology obtains a National Degree qualification in their chosen engineering disciplines. These graduate bursars may then be offered permanent employment upon obtaining their 4 year degree qualification. These students get allocated to the business and provided a further 24 months structured on the job exposure, with coaching and mentoring support ensuring consolidation of theory and practical. The individual’s development progress is assessed at 6 monthly intervals and appropriate salary adjustments effected in line with successful progression.

Technician in Training (TIT) Programme
After completing S4 (theoretical component), engineering students studying through the Universities of Technology require successful completion of compulsory Practical Training (P1 & P2) in order to obtain a National Diploma (ND) qualification in their chosen engineering disciplines. These graduate bursars may then be offered permanent employment upon obtaining their ND qualification.
These students get allocated to the business and provided a further 18 months structured on the job exposure, with coaching and mentoring support ensuring consolidation of theory and practical. The individual’s development progress is assessed at 6 monthly intervals and appropriate salary adjustments effected in line with successful progression.

Graduate in Training (GIT) Programme
Graduate trainees are sourced from universities, either by visiting the universities or advertising through appropriate channels. The purpose of the (GIT) programme is to afford the young professionals work exposure in their field of study. TE runs GIT programmes in disciplines such as Supply Chain and Logistics, Procurement, Human Resources and Finance. GIT numbers are dependent on the needs of a particular department. GIT is a 24 month structured programme during which time the individuals are assessed at regular intervals. Placement at the end of the programme is dependent on vacancies and the performance of the individual.

TechnoGirl Programme
This programme spans a maximum of 4 years, divided into 3 one week school holiday placements. The programme is open to school girls aged 15 – 18. Placement is driven by available opportunities for exposure and Department of Education in partnership with UWESO they conduct the recruitment and placement of the learners within Transnet Engineering.
