Course Aim
The aim of the National Diploma in Public Management is to prepare students for a career in the public sector. The object is to prepare students for entry into commerce and industry, and to offer invaluable guidance on managerial competencies for those preparing to enter higher levels of the public sector.
The course is designed to offer both practical and theoretical knowledge on a variety of issues ranging from public finance, personnel management, sustainable development, legislative procedures, information technology, knowledge – skills – applications necessary for public managers to models of governance.
The diploma is a pre-requisite for advancement to higher levels in the public service. The programe is offered on a semester basis.
Completion of the National Diploma: Public Management (or its equivalent) and minimum in one of the major subjects, will be the necessary entry requirements to the Bachelor of Technology: Public Management degree. Students may be required to attend a personal interview.
Employment Opportunities
Diplomats may be employed in all departments of the Public Service, Provincial and Local Government authorities. Students are also sufficiently trained to enter the fields of entrepreneurship, non-governmental organizations, para-statals, private sector and other developmental initiatives. The introduction of innovative modules has made this diploma more useful as it broadens the scope of employment opportunities, as a result of specialized skills.
