ABOUT THE BURSAR
Established in 1974 as “Marc Rich + Co AG” with the aim of marketing ferrous and non-ferrous metals, as well as crude oil and minerals. Later, in 2013 Glencore Xstrata plc was formed by a merger between Xstrata and Glencore. Then in May 2014, the company name was changed to “Glencore plc”.
Today, Glencore plc is one of the greatest companies in the world in terms of natural resource companies, producing and trading more than 90 commodities.
ABOUT THE BURSARY
The bursary programme was implemented as a way for Glencore to try keep the flow of strong academic talent into the organisation, and thereby ensure the continuity of the company.
The bursary will be awarded to students who intend on studying within one of the following fields:
- Chemical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Geology
- Mechanical Engineering
- Metallurgical Engineering
- Mining Engineering
The bursary will cover the following expense: registration fees, tuition costs, meals, accommodation, prescribed textbooks and a monthly allowance.
Students will also be able to partake in paid vacation work, where they will gain invaluable working experience. On completion of studies, you will be required to work at Glencore for the equal duration of the bursary award.
Applicants will be chosen based on academic result and thereafter, an interview.
ELIGIBILITY
Matric/ Grade 12 students: must have a minimum “C” symbol in English, Science and Mathematics.
First/ second year students: must have a 100% pass rate in all subjects.
