How To Renew Car License Online Cape Town In South Africa

E-SERVICES

The e-Services application does not fully support mobile phone or tablet access – please use your laptop or desktop instead.

Our applications are best viewed using the latest versions of the following web browsers, Internet Explorer 11, Chrome 72+, Firefox 65+ or Safari 12+.

The amount you pay is determined by the tare or empty vehicle mass, which differs depending on the vehicle. Visit the Western Cape Government’s website for the latest licence fees.

Our electronic payment system, which can be accessed through the e-Services portal, provides a quick and easy way to pay your licensing fees.

Follow the steps below:

Step 1: You will need to register as a user on the e-Services portal if you aren’t registered already.

Required document:

  • Proof of residence; and
  • a copy of your ID.

PLEASE NOTE

Required documents can be scanned in and sent as an attachment. For a complete list of documents accepted as proof of address, visit the Western Cape Government website or download our Verification Documents Guideline.

Step 2: Activate the vehicle licensing renewal option and fill in the relevant information to obtain the City’s banking details and your specific deposit reference number.

Step 3: Using these banking details, and your specific deposit reference number, you can make an EFT payment directly from your bank’s website.

Take note of the following:

  • Applications for vehicle licence renewals should be made a month prior to the expiry date.
  • You should receive your licence within fourteen working days after the payment has been received by us. However, we make use of the South African Postal Services to deliver all our licences and there may be unforeseen delays.
  • Should you not receive your disc before then, contact our Call Centre on 086 0103 089.
  • Motor dealers who need to renew motor trade plates can only do this in person at a motor vehicle licensing office.
