ICT is at the centre of digital innovation and is a solution hub for communities, private and public industries. ICT is a diverse field of study consisting of many specialisations that service the innovative digital world. Specialisations include developing applications, analysing business processes, storing and retrieving data, and providing secure communication platforms to facilitate effective organisational and personal decision making. DIPLOMA IN AGRICULTURE IN PLANT PRODUCTION

The Diploma in Agriculture in Plant Production focuses on plant production; Agronomy (mainly maize, potatoes and sugarcane), Vegetable production (such as carrots, cabbage, spinach, lettuce), and Fruit production (citrus and subtropical fruits). The areas of study covered by the programme include; crop production, water management and farm management. The candidates looking for a career in this field need to be hard working and have a passion for agriculture and entrepreneurship.

Year 1 & 2

Year 3 
In the third year, students spend the full year on a commercial farm to learn the relevant skills required by the industry and during which there is the opportunity to apply theoretical and practical knowledge and skills in a real world setting.

DIPLOMA IN NATURE CONSERVATION

The Diploma in Nature Conservation is designed to enhance the supply of graduates with a sound understanding of relevant theory associated with nature conservation and a well-developed ability to apply the theory in practice. The programme includes foundational subjects such as Animal and Plant Science, Soil Science and management courses including Accounting and Human Resource Management; and major subjects including Conservation Ecology, Environmental Management and Resource Management. The third year is a year of work integrated learning during which students will be placed in the industry.
By allowing students to focus on a particular aspect of conservation such as the conservation of birds or endangered flora, our graduates will have a competitive edge over those from other similar programmes.

BACHELOR OF AGRICULTURE IN AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION AND RURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

The Bachelor of Agriculture in Agricultural Extension and Rural Resource Management aims to equip agricultural extension practitioners with the skills, knowledge and attitude needed to contribute to building the capacity of farmers to innovate and to engage in market-oriented sustainable agricultural production, diversification of products and value adding.
Graduates will contribute to strengthening the capacity of the nation to meet its agricultural objectives. They will help meet the demand for professional practitioners who can participate in leading South African agriculture through the complex world of agricultural and rural transformation while at the same time supporting and helping to expand commercial agricultural activity and production.

The Bachelor of Agriculture in Agricultural Extension and Rural Resource Management is a three-year, 360 credit, exit level 7 qualification.
CURRICULUM: 
The modules offered within the programme combine topics in agriculture such as Crop and Animal Production, Plant Propagation and Plant Protection, Farm Management and Conservation, and Mechanisation, with topics in Agricultural Extension including Rural Wealth Creation, Development of Economic Systems, Designing Extension Programmes, Extension Communication, Natural Resource Conservation, and Introduction to Rural Development and Extension. In third year there is a period of work integrated learning during which the knowledge and skills developed in the first two years are applied in a real world work environment.

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN AGRICULTURE

The University of Mpumalanga, as an African University, strives to lead in creating opportunities for sustainable development through innovation. In line with this statement, the BSc in Agriculture seeks to produce agricultural scientist that will use agricultural methods sustainably to produce food and educate society in such a way that food security is guaranteed. Graduates from the programme will be able to use the latest and relevant scientific farming techniques adapted to our environment.
The BSc in Agriculture has a specific focus on Agricultural Production Operations and allows students to select additional modules from Agricultural Extension, Agricultural and Applied Entomology, Water Management and Environmental Science.

In the fourth year, students chose one of two streams being Agricultural Science and Agricultural Business.

BACHELOR OF EDUCATION IN FOUNDATION PHASE TEACHING

The UMP Bachelor of Education in Foundation Phase Teaching is aligned with the new Higher Education Qualifications Framework’s (HEQF) guidelines. The degree will equip Foundation Phase classroom teachers with the knowledge, skills and applied competencies for employability and further specialised study, in support of the principles of life-long learning.
Prospective students for this programme need to have a genuine love and passion for working with, and understanding the development of the young child. They should be interested in becoming part of a noble profession which has as its main focus the education of children in the Foundation Phase. Students need to be flexible, willing to learn and to face up to the challenges presented by theSouth African context. The Bachelor of Education in Foundation Phase Teaching is offered at the Siyabuswa Campus of UMP.

CURRICULUM: 
The Bachelor of Education in Foundation Phase Teaching aims to provide graduates with skills for the teaching profession, and related careers in education. The programmes focus exclusively on training students in Foundation Phase Teaching and provides a fundamental and comprehensive education underpinned by subject knowledge in the teaching of Language, Mathematics and Life Skills in Grades 1 to 3 as well as enabling Foundation Phase teachers to prepare Grade R learners for formal learning. There is a focus on educational theory and methodology aligned with the requirements for a professionally qualified beginner teacher.
Areas of study covered by the programme are: English for Foundation Phase; siSwati or isiNdebele for Foundation Phase (electives); Mathematics for Foundation Phase; Life Skills for Foundation phase; Teaching and Computer Technology; Education Studies; and practicum training within the profession. In the first three years, students spend time in the adjacent teaching school where they begin to develop their teaching practice. In the final year students are placed at a school for work-place based learning where they begin to apply the theory, knowledge and skills developed in the first three years, in a real world setting.

BACHELOR OF DEVELOPMENT STUDIES

The Bachelor of Development Studies is a three-year degree which equips students with skills and understanding of different theories, practices and activities which are useful to facilitate holistic and integrated focused development. Some of the common skills include development facilitation, communication, environmental planning, project design and management, rural and social development and research amongst others.
The Bachelor of Development Studies degree integrates knowledge and systems from other disciplines such as Economics, Sociology, Industrial Psychology, Public Administration and Computer Studies.

The Bachelor of Development Studies is a three-year, 360 credit, exit level 7 qualification.
CURRICULUM:
The Bachelor of Development Studies qualification curriculum aims to provide students the following skills:

• An understanding of perspectives that form the context of development;

BACHELOR OF COMMERCE (BCOM) DEGREE

The Bachelor of Commerce is a three-year degree which equips students with skills, knowledge and experience needed to pursue a career within the business, government and non-profit sectors. The degree focuses on the factors that drive economic behaviour at both individual and organisational level and equip students with the analytical, communication and problem-solving skills to effectively identify issues, source information and find efficient and practical solutions. The course is structured to reflect the changing world of commerce and to provide a firm foundation for the world of work, including the necessary skills. Ethical principles and general knowledge needed to decision-making in a business environment.
PROGRAMME CURRICULUM
DURATION: 
The BCom (General) is a three-year, 360 credit, exit level 7 qualification.
CURRICULUM:
The curriculum provides for specialisation up to third year level in two of the following fields: Accounting, Economics, Business Management, Entrepreneurship, and Industrial Psychology/Human Resource Management.
In first year, all students will take Economics I, Business Calculations, Academic Literacy and Business Computing. Students will then select two subjects from Industrial Psychology/Human Resource Management I, Accounting I and Business Management I.
In second year, students will continue with three of the major subjects taken in first year (Economics, Accounting, Business Management or Industrial Psychology/HRM) or may add a full year of Entrepreneurship or a semester of Commercial Law.
In third year, students continue with two of the major subjects taken in second year. It is therefore possible to major in Industrial Psychology or HRM, with a commerce subject such as Economics or Business Management, or to do a general Bachelor of Commerce with Economics and Accounting, or Economics and Business Management, or Business Management and Entrepreneurship in third year.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants with the National Senior Certificate (NSC):
The minimum requirements for admission to a Bachelor’s Degree must be met. In addition, students will have the following:
Minimum Admission Point Score (APS):
– 32 With Mathematics
• English Language (Home or First Additional Language): Level 4

• Mathematical Literacy is not acceptable
• Commerce subjects will be beneficial but are not required
