South African Institute of Race Relations Bursary – South Africa

ABOUT THE BURSAR
The South African Institute of Race Relations (IRR) was established in 1933, with the core focus on developing social and economic conditions to influence policy decision makers.
The IRR have been funding financially needing students since 1935, and since 1980 have awarded over R220 million in bursary funding. The late Nelson Mandela was one of the lucky bursary recipients.

ABOUT THE BURSARY

Bursaries will be awarded to students in various fields of study, who are studying towards a degree or diploma qualification. Please note that postgraduate and Honours funding is not currently available.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying:

  • South African citizen,
  • In Matric OR have completed Matric,
  • Studying (or intend on studying) towards a first degree/ diploma qualification (no postgraduate students will be funded),
  • Studying (or intend on studying) at a recognised South African tertiary institution,
  • Proven financial need.

 

HOW TO APPLY

Applications must be done online at: http://irr.org.za/programmes/bursary-programme/applying-for-a-bursary-for-2024-form (from 1 July annually).

Applicants will then be shortlisted and contacted by 30 September, where they will then be required to submit additional documentation. The documentation must reach the IRR by 15 November latest.
