ABOUT THE BURSAR

The Sugar Industry Trust Fund for Education (SITFE) was established in 1965 and since its inception, has provided study funding for more than 10 000 students.

ABOUT THE BURSARY

Bursaries will be awarded to students within the following fields of study:

  • Agriculture
  • Engineering
  • Science

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying:

  • South African citizen,
  • Residents of KwaZulu-Natal or Mpumalanga,
  • Registered or applied to study in one of the aforementioned faculties at a University/ University of Technology/ College of Agriculture, OR
  • The child of a sugarcane farm worker who has registered or applied in their chosen field of study at a University/ University of Technology/ College of Agriculture.

Please note which Universities and Colleges bursary awards may be redeemed at:
TUT Bursaries: Students may study at the Tshwane University of Technology only,
SITFE/UNITE Bursaries: Students may study at the Tshwane University of Technology only,
University Merit Bursaries: Students may study at the University of Zululand and the University of KwaZulu-Natal only,
Agricultural Bursaries: Students may study at the Cedara College of Agriculture, the University of Mpumalanga and the Owen Sithole College of Agriculture only,
University of Technology Merit Bursaries: Students may study at the Mangosuthu University of Technology and Durban University only,

HOW TO APPLY

The following documents must accompany your complete application form:

  • ID document (certified copy),
  • Proof of parents/ guardians income (payslips/ pension statement/ affidavit in unemployed) OR death certificate is parents are deceased,
  • Proof of connection to the sugar industry (if applicable),
  • Matric students must add:
    • Latest school report,
    • Final exam results (if available),
    • Proof of application/ registration to a tertiary institution,
  • Tertiary students must add:
    • Latest exam results.
