University of Cape Town Off Campus Accommodation
The provision of affordable and suitable student accommodation for use by young people intending to or who are currently studying at any of the public higher education institutions remains a key challenge of high demand and short supply which is exacerbated by high rental cost. In addition the challenges of students who may need to subsist on limited financial capacity creates an increased demand for affordable and suitable student accommodation in the commercial and private sector, given the limited student accommodation on campus.
With the ever increasing demand for students to study at UCT, comes a key challenge of demand and supply of hybrid independent living (DIGS) off- campus accommodation. Off Campus Student Accommodation Service (OCSAS) provides a practical and viable alternative to the residence system by way of comprehensive information and guidance on off-campus accommodation.
Straight forward information allows students to make well informed choices about where they want to live and who to rent from. This process is streamlined by a database of landlords seeking students to lease their properties. Largely it provides students with no UCT residence space an opportunity to review choices that are suited to their need and affordability level.
