2024 Competition Commission Graduate Programme
The Competition Commission (Commission) is a statutory body constituted in terms of the Competition Act , No. 89 of 1998 (the Act) . It is one of three, independent competition regulatory authorities established in terms of the Act, with the other two being the Competition Tribunal and the Competition Appeal Court (formerly, the Competition Board).
While the Commission is the investigative and enforcement agency, the Tribunal is the adjudicative body and the Competition Appeal Court considers appeals against decisions of the Tribunal. The Competition authorities are functionally-independent institutions, but are administratively accountable to the Department of Economic Development.
The Competition Commission is looking for a Graduate Trainee to join its Policy & Research division in Pretoria. The programme is available on a twelve 12 months fixed term contract.

The Competition Commission is responsible for: investigating and assessing anti-competitive behaviour in response to complaints, investigating large mergers, making referral to the Competition Tribunal; and investigating and deciding on intermediate mergers. In addition, it undertakes advocacy work to promote compliance with the Competition Act.
Policy & Research does economic research and analyses market conditions, structures and trends, and provides economic input to cases.
Minimum requirements:
Applicants must have completed Honours in Economics degree.
Masters degree (or substantial progress towards one) in Economics is preferable
Be a South African citizen.
A consistent academic performer with an average of 60% pass rate.
Should not have worked as a permanent employee previously.
Competencies Required:
Good analytical, research and investigative skills.
Well-developed writing skills
Interpersonal skills as well as computer literacy are prerequisites.
Excellent written and verbal communication skill
Be a self-starter.
