Ubom! Drama Company with the support of the Rhodes University Drama Department organises and runs the annual Makana Drama Development Festival (MDDF) for community artists & schools. Workshops, rehearsals, staging and performances are facilitated by Ubom! and are then adjudicated at the Festival.
This community festival of competing theatre works was initiated by Ubom! and has been held at the Rhodes University Theatre every year since 2003. Vuka drama workshops are held in various schools and centres throughout the year and these groups along with independent community drama groups are lobbied and invited to participate in the festival. Eleven local groups will be showcasing in both the Junior and the Senior categories of this year’s festival.
