2024 Teacher Internship At St John’s D.S.G

St John’s D.S.G., established in 1897 by the Sisters of St John the Divine, is situated in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. It is a leading Anglican, independent, day and boarding school for 500 girls (Grades RR – 12), and is a member of the Independent Schools’ Association of Southern Africa. St John’s has a strong community ethos that gives it a distinct character.

TEACHER INTERNS (SENIOR SCHOOL – FET PHASE).
In one or more of the following teaching subjects:
English, Mathematics, Physical Science, Life Science, Accounting, Business Studies.

Effective from January, 2024.
Applications are invited for aspiring teachers to be part of our Intern programme.
The successful applicants must:

• Have an appropriate 3-year degree and be committed to registering for a PGCE in 2024 in one of the above-mentioned subjects, or in 3rd or 4th year of a Bachelor of Education (BEd) in 2024.
• Be passionate about working with young people.
• Be a person of integrity and enthusiasm, with strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
• Be fully computer literate.
• Be committed to the Christian ethos of the School and able to provide a caring environment in which girls can develop.
• Be willing to participate fully in the school’s extra-mural programme.
• Be willing to apply for clearance with the Child Protection Act and Sexual Offenders Register.

Preference will be given to candidates who:

• Are willing to take on a position as a Boarder Mistress in the Boarding Establishment.
• Have a proven record of academic rigor.
• Possess a valid driver’s licence.
• Have the ability to coach sport.
• Are from a previously disadvantaged background.
