Opportunity Description
1. ASSISTANT COLLECTIONS MANAGER ART
Basic Salary Range: R203 376 – R275 148 per annum, plus benefits
Requirements: Grade 12 -Museum experience in managing a collection -Valid driver’s licence.
Key Responsibilities include: Assist with the preparation, accessioning and registration of new artworks -Assist with incorporating newly accessioned artworks into collections -Assist with recording and providing information to the Collections Manager Art for report preparations -Assist with the management of loans in the collections areas according to specifications in the Collections Policy and Collections Procedure Manual -Ensure that the display areas are kept clean and organised -Ensure that all loan transactions are compatible with legal requirements and necessary insurance cover and permits are obtained.
Competencies Required: Ability to record information accurately -Ability to work in a team -Adherence to legal requirements with regards to loan transactions -Maintain clean and organised environment/area.
2. CURATOR CONTEMPORARY ART
Basic Salary Range:R341 508 – R462 060 per annum, plus benefits
Requirements: Masters degree in Art History and/or Theory or equivalent -At least five years’ experience working in an art museum or gallery -Proven record of research excellence and publication -Computer literacy in MS Office Suite -Valid driver’s licence.
Key Responsibilities include: Deliver curatorial and related functions in relation to the collections of Contemporary Art (with primary responsibility for paintings and sculpture with a focus on Africa and the Diaspora) in conjunction with the curators of prints, drawings, photography and new media Identify works for acquisition and conservation Communicate specialist research findings to the public through publications, exhibitions, popular articles, website and public programmes Negotiate, handle and manage artworks for temporary and touring artworks, to and from other institutions, nationally and abroad and act as a courier when required -Participate in strategic planning, budgeting and fundraising- Submit monthly, quarterly and annual reports -Liaise with the Education department about the generation of content for the education and public programmes -Liaise with Advancement department about the generation of content for marketing and audience development -Liaise with the National Research Foundation (NRF) and other bodies that fund research programmes -Manage the procurement processes linked to the implementation of exhibitions -Contribute to risk management and alert Director Research and Exhibitions of any areas of potential risk that require mitigation -Mentor interns and volunteers.
Competencies Required: Ability to plan and implement projects -Knowledge of financial management and fundraising -Ability to network with the art community -Knowledge of exhibition and graphic design -Museological knowledge.

Requirements: Masters degree in Art History and/or Theory or equivalent – with specialisation in the more traditional historical forms of artistic production from South and southern Africa and the Continent -At least five years’ experience working in an art museum or gallery -Proven record of research excellence and publication -Computer literacy in MS Office Suite •Valid driver’s licence.
