MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Professor / Associate Professor:

  • A completed Doctorate in Fine Art (Visual Arts) or an appropriate associated field
  • A substantial and recent publication and/or exhibition record in the discipline
  • A minimum of 10 years teaching experience (Professor level) or 5 years (Associate Professor level) at tertiary level
  • A record of successful supervision of postgraduate research
  • Experience in the field of Fine Art Ceramics

Senior Lecturer

  • A completed Doctorate in Fine Art (Visual Arts) or an appropriate associated field
  • At least 3 years lecturing experience at an undergraduate and postgraduate level at a tertiary institution
  • Research track record (publications and/or exhibitions)
  • Postgraduate supervision track record
  • Experience in the field of Fine Art Ceramics

Lecturer

  • A completed Masters/M.Tech in Fine Art (Visual Arts) or an appropriate associated field
  • At least 1 year lecturing experience at an undergraduate level at a tertiary institution or teaching experience at a secondary institution
  • Research track record (publications and/or exhibitions)
  • Experience in the field of Fine Art Ceramics

Additional Recommendations:

  • Lecturing experience at a University of Technology
  • Lecturing experience with English Second Language students
  • Familiarity with practise-based Visual Arts Research

Summary of Duties:

  • Lecture Art Theory and Art Practice (Ceramic Art Studio Practice, Methods and Techniques, Theory and History of Ceramic Art) which entails integrated theory and practice (studio practice, lectures, tutorials, seminars)
  • Be involved in running the Ceramic studio that focuses on exploring Ceramics as a creative medium
  • Participate in team teaching within the department in both the Fine Art and Jewellery Design programmes
  • Undertake research and publish/ exhibit on a regular basis
  • Act as a supervisor/ co-supervisor in the Masters in Fine Art programme
  • Undertake administrative duties assigned by the Head of Department/ Programme Co-ordinator

Minimum Professional Requirements:

  • At least 3 years’ experience in the field of Broadcast Television Production
  • Additional Recommendations:
  • The following would be considered advantageous:
  • Tutoring in the field of Television Production at a tertiary institution
  • At least 3 years’ experience of lecturing at a tertiary level
  • Industry experience which includes pre-production, production and post-production of multi camera studio productions, dramas, documentaries and music videos
  • A recent research track record

Summary of Duties:

  • Teach and examine course work at first, second and third year level in the National Diploma: Video Technology and B Tech Video Technology programmes as assigned by the HOD.
  • Complete all administrative duties related to teaching of the courses that are allocated.
  • Contribute to the research activities and outputs of the department
  • Attend all Department functions, staff meetings etc

3. DEPARTMENT OF CLOTHING AND TEXTILE STUDIES

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Associate Professor / Professor:

  • PhD within the discipline of Apparel, Textiles, Consumer Sciences or Production Management. The undergraduate study must include clothing related subjects
  • Minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience in clothing related fields such as product development or clothing manufacturing process control
  • Sound knowledge of the technical aspects of clothing including but not limited to patternmaking, construction, quality, workstudy, production methods, use of textiles and other raw materials
  • A proven track record of research publication and supervision within the field of Clothing and related areas
  • Rank grading to be decided by the panel commensurate with experience and as per DUT promotion policy

Senior Lecturer:

  • As above but with a Minimum of 8 years relevant industry experience

Lecturer:

  • Masters’ degree within the disciplines of Consumer Sciences or Production Management
  • As above but with a minimum of 5 years relevant industry experience
  • Participation or involvement in research / publication within the field of Clothing and related areas

Additional Recommendations:

  • Demonstrate a solid portfolio of work and traceable references
  • Prior teaching experience at Higher Education level will be highly advantageous
  • Relevant industry membership/ affiliation with an industry professional body such as SAFECCS or IPM
  • 8-10 years practical clothing industry experience in a range of areas
  • Teaching or training or mentoring experience in the Higher Education or Commercial Sector

Summary of Duties:

  • Lecture in product and process related subjects or where required as deemed necessary by the HOD
  • Assist in the curriculation and development of appropriate course material
  • Participate in departmental life including community engagement and research
  • Perform administrative duties assigned by the Head of Department
  • The preparation of lectures and practicals, development of teaching aids and the evaluation of theoretical and practical student work
  • Community liaison and outreach work as required
