Bursaries cover the full payment of registration, tuition and residence fees, plus an allowance, in return for a commitment to work at Mintek on a year-for-year basis.

Who Can Apply
South African citizens with NSC with university exemption, 5 in Mathematics, Physical Sciences and English. Students already enrolled at university may also apply for a Mintek bursary, provided that the student does not have any financial support that entails a service obligation upon graduation, and can demonstrate acceptable academic performance. Bursaries are awarded in the following fields of study: Catalysis, Chemistry (Analytical or Geochemistry), Chemical Engineering (Minerals Processing or Process Control), Electrical Engineering (Process Control Systems or Electronics), Extractive Metallurgy (Pyrometallurgy or Hydrometallurgy, including Bio-hydrometallurgy), Fuel Cells Geology (Mineralogy, Petrology, Applied Geology or Economic Geology), Mechanical Engineering, Minerals Processing, Mining Engineering, Mining-Focused Environmental Compliance, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Physical Metallurgy, Physics, Precious Metal-Based Drug Discovery.
Service Contract
On completion of their studies, bursars undergo an intensive training course that is aimed at turning them into career scientists. Mintek bursars are obliged to undertake vacation work at Mintek at the end of their first
