Energy Storage Internship Opportunity at CSIR 2024

About the job:
The CSIR has an Internship opportunity in the Energy Centre.
The incumbent will analyse the energy storage requirements for the energy autonomous campus.
This position is based in Pretoria.

Key responsibilities:
Assist with the development of the power to gas process flow in collaboration with selected strategic partners (academic institutions);
Perform mass balance for the power to gas process flow;
Perform an energy balance for the power to gas process flow;
Perform an optimisation of the power to gas process flow;
Determine the size of the required equipment (i.e. electrolyser, reactor, storage capacity, compressors etc;
Compare various battery technologies (power density, rate of charging and discharging, response time etc.);
Identify suitable battery management system;
Assist with the development of a business case for the CSIR energy autonomous campus.
Qualifications, skills and experience:
A Bachelor of Science or Engineering degree in chemical engineering. A Master’s degree will be an advantage;
Ability to work as part of a team, both leading and as a key member, influencing decisions and reacting positively to challenges is essential;
Proficient in Microsoft Office programs is essential (outlook, word, excel, PowerPoint) and must be able to learn new software;
Good communications skills.
