Job description

To ensure the effective and timely execution of briefs, by managing own projects, as well as the workload of reps. Providing creative input in order to create viable and commercial packaging solutions.

Key performance areas

• To execute and develop packaging from concept design creation, packaging artwork rollout, and final printed packaging to meet customer’s needs.
• Customer liaising – provide a full graphic design consultancy service.
• Successfully manage and coordinate graphic design projects from concept through to completion.

Description of duties:

• Design artwork for corrugated packaging. Reduce eight or more colour artwork to a five colour print, by replacing process colours with spot colours. Apply trapping, spreads, and bleeds. Advise on colour choice for printing onto different substrates.
• Flexographic printing – adjusting curves in Photoshop to compensate for dot gain. Ensure there is enough screen in highlight areas to prevent banding. Redraw labels in illustrator to replace the raster image with a vector image and revolving the image to be placed on a cylindrical surface.
• Stereo quotes.
• Generated printing instructions for customer approval and increased quality of production on the factory floor.
• Decision-making and problem-solving: Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
• Monitoring the progress of work and coordinating to ensure targets are met in time.
• Checking pulls.
• Approval of artwork for the factory.

One of our Clients, one of the largest paper and plastic packaging businesses in southern Africa currently has a vacancy available for a Graphic Designer. They are based in Epping.

Requirements

• Must have a grade 12.
• Must have a national diploma in graphic design or similar qualification.
• Must be computer literate (specifically Apple Mac and Adobe Creative Suite).
• Must have at least two to three years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
