The SA Art Times is SA’s largest-growing art news network, reaching over half a million readers daily through our printed magazine, daily website and social media platforms. We currently have four vacancies to join our team. Deadline for Applications is 15 May 2024.

4 VACANCIES AT SA ART TIMES
1) EVENTS AND NEWS CONTENT PUBLISHER
We are looking for a motivated listings and news publisher for the following:
Gallery listings & online news content updates:

  • Gallery Listings: Email over 100 galleries, events organizers, and auction houses each month in order to update their information of shows and events. Process web templates to chronological date. Compile info and images for each event- through submitted template pages.
  • News updates: Upload pre-packaged news stories online, using WordPress Page Templates
  • Newsletter: Compiling advertising and news stories using template pages on WordPress.
  • Social media: Repeat selected stories to post onto social media (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram).
  • Selling: Sell listing and event blocks in the magazine and similarly social media. Renew subscriptions via the telephone, email.
  • Advertising Traffic Control: Schedule advertising components on media platforms (supervised by the Marketing Department).

Advantageous:

  • Basic knowledge of visual arts, as well as Arts and Cultural events
  • Good organizational skills
  • Good articulation of English, spelling and grammar.
  • Basic familiarity with WordPress template pages (easy to learn) and emailing
  • A good telephone manner and the ability to get along with clients. Quality customer service.
  • The ability to work independently and to show initiative, but also to work well in a team.
  • The ability to plan ahead, be punctual, and remain cool under the pressure of deadlines.
  • Previous experience in data capture, layout and publishing on WordPress (easy to learn)
  • Experience using Photoshop.

Remuneration:
R 8 000 – R10 000 depending on experience.
Holidays and one day off per month (after deadline).

2) ART MAGAZINE AND COMMUNITY NEWSPAPER DESIGNER
Monthly Magazine: We produce a 64-page monthly. The Art Times has made its name as SA’s most read art magazine for over 10 years and has developed into a quality brand.
Community Newspaper: We would like to proceed with a 8 page 30 000-copy weekly community newspaper focusing on community issues and cultural listings. The expected layout would be an 8-page tabloid, of which half would be advertising.
The SA Art Times is an excellent platform into the art world, providing an inside view into the vibrant visual arts industry.
Essential:
The ability to see the magazine through from conception of content to production of sections, layout, proofing, and uploading to the printers’ FTP program
Knowledge of Adobe Indesign and Photoshop on PC
The ability to work quickly.
Advantageous:

  • Work experience in a deadline-driven environment (preferably in publishing)
  • The ability to work in a team / take instruction from editorial and marketing staff
  • Friendly, professional manner when dealing with clients, and the ability to extract material timeously from clients
  • An eye for quality design and visual articulation

Remuneration:
R9 000 -14 000 per month depending on skills and experience. Would be on a contract basis.

3) GALLERY ASSISTANT MANAGER (THREE-DAY WEEKLY, CAPE TOWN)
The SA Print Gallery is the largest, most comprehensive dealership in Fine Art Prints in South Africa.
We are looking for the following: An assistant Gallery Manager to work together with our existing Gallery Manager, 3 days a week, alternating Saturday mornings.
Essential:

  • Candidate should live in Cape Town
  • Candidate should have their own car and valid driver’s license
  • Should be prepared to put in extra hours when art fairs and exhibition openings.

Advantageous:

  • Knowledge and experience in Fine Art
  • Professional manner when dealing with clients,
  • Social media, and Photoshop savvy
  • Knowledge of writing on art, handling and packaging art
  • Previously worked in a gallery or in retail.

Remuneration:
R 6 000 upwards (depending on experience), with commission on sales

4) ART MAGAZINE CONTENTS EDITOR
The position includes the following:

  • Creating, requesting and commissioning content with both editorial quality and marketing strategy in mind. Formats include: interviews, artist profiles, and features. A quantity of this content will need to be created from scratch, the rest in collaboration with clients.
  • Compiling and editing content for all Art Times platforms including: magazine, website, newsletters and social media
  • Directing the Events and News Content Publisher and Layout Designer as to how the content should be presented.

Essentials:

  • Good organizational skills, a good eye for detail
  • A knowledge of SA visual art, as well as the who’s who of the art world. Although you’ll be working with a strong support from the Editorial and Marketing team, it is expected that you should know the context in which you will working.
  • The ability to work independently, but as part of a team, in a deadline-based environment.
  • Previous experience in writing features, a good writing style and articulate attention to structure, grammar and spelling is a must.
  • The ability to meet the clients’ needs by clarifying expectations, asking relevant questions, and keeping in good communication with the clients.
  • Previous experience using Photoshop

Advantageous:

  • Previous experience in a publishing environment
  • Previous experience using WordPress and social media
  • A good eye for page layout, optimizing content to make it reader-appealing
  • The ability to start and finish think and write quickly articles and profiles

Remuneration:
R 12 000 – 15 000
Holidays and a day off each month (after deadline).
