SENIOR LAB ASSISTANT/LABORATORY ASSISTANT – REF: 537
DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY: ALICE CAMPUS
Snr Laboratory Assistant: R268 040 – R332 050 pa (All-inclusive Package)
Laboratory Assistant: R229 400 – R283 750 pa (All-inclusive Package)
Core purpose: The candidate in this post will be expected to run practicals at undergraduate level and also be willing to assists in postgraduate level during field work, be willing to help in departmental administration, and to solidify relevant interphases between academia, private sector and government service.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Preparation, running and marking of practicals at undergraduate level.
- Supervision of laboratory assistants, demonstrators and tutors.
- Maintenance of stock records viz. equipment, glassware, chemicals, microslides and wet specimens used for undergraduate teaching.
- Purchasing of consumable materials and necessary equipment to ensure smooth running of practicals.
- Culture, maintenance and preparation of slides for experiments and/or dissections.
Requirements:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES:
- B.Sc Honours majoring in Botany
- Proven expertise in Plant Biology/Botany
- Excellent communication skills
- Good management abilities
- Research experience
A qualification in the assessment of learning would be an added advantage.
