Project Coordinator – Level 1

SAMRC-UNISA Violence, Injury and Peace Research Unit (VIPRU) 
Based: Cape Town / Johannesburg 

5 Year Contract
The VIPRU, co-directed by the South African Medical Research Council and University of South Africa, is focused on improving the health status, safety and quality of life of the population through social science and public health oriented research aimed at preventing injury, death, disability and suffering arising from violence and unintentional incidents of injury. VIPRU research concentrates on the best practices for primary prevention and injury control.
The position is required to support national and community injury information systems.
Responsibilities will include:

  • Coordination of VIPRU’s national and selected community injury information systems
  • Coordinate information system data collection, collation, initial analyses and logistics
  • Manage a team of junior scientists and fieldworkers
  • Contribute to the related data analysis and publications and compile monitoring and budgetary reports

Core Requirements:

  • A post graduate/ 4 year tertiary qualification in the social,  or health promotion sciences
  • 2-3 years proven coordination experience in safety and peace promotion, injury prevention or health promotion programmes
  • Proven experience of quantitative research studies
  • The ability to liaise with a range of stakeholders

Advantageous:

  • A Masters degree

A salary in the region of ZAR 275 000 per annum, will be negotiated in consideration of experience and qualifications.
The final location of the posts will be at VIPRU’s Cape Town or Lenasia, Johannesburg offices, subject to business requirements.
