Library Assistant: Client Services
Requirements:
A minimum of matric or Grade 12.
Computer literacy.
Knowledge of integrated library system particularly the Circulation module.
Attention to detail and high degree of accuracy with ability to work under pressure.
Effective team and independent worker with good filing skills.
Good written and verbal communication and interpersonal and customer care skills.
Ability to comprehend and follow detailed written and oral instructions.
Preparedness to do shelving and shelf reading and to work night and weekend shifts.
Working knowledge of library methods and procedures.
Willingness to maintain skills through active participation in appropriate library skills learning experiences.
Knowledge of Dewey Decimal Classification System.
Preparedness to help or do other duties as required
Duties:
Check-in, check-out and renew circulating materials including reserves.
Register patron and collect fines.
Monitor timely return of library materials.
Create and update library patron records.
Assist in sending materials other libraries at the inter library loans desk.
Answer and provide basic information and refer users to appropriate staff.
Process, withdraw, repair and recondition library materials.
Maintain consistent presence at circulation/reserve desk during assigned shift.
Assist in shelving library materials using the Dewey Decimal Classification system.
Assist in shelf-reading book stacks for accuracy of shelving.
Keep statistics and compile individual periodic reports.
Perform other work as required.
