Multinational leader in the engineering sector is urgently looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible to complete boiler mechanical design (excluding main boiler structures) and including, but not limited to, Pressure Parts, Pressure Part Supports, Buckstays and Restraints, Integration of attachments and penetrations, Flues and ducts, Insulation and Refractories, Galleries and Stairways and Boiler Hot Structures.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Matric essential
  • BTech / BEng degree in Mechanical Engineering essential
  • Registered with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng)
  • 5 – 7 years’ experience in the boiler design and construction environment

Duties

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Compliance with Policies, Procedures, Systems and Processes.
  • The cost effective design of plant and components by determining the scope and requirements, completing calculations, obtaining approvals and conforming to Client, the Company, Licensor and Statutory specifications, to enable correct operation, timeous and cost effective erection and completion of the Plant.
  • Preparation of tenders, including preliminary designs, material take-offs, technical requisitions, manhour estimation, planning and technical write-ups.
  • Planning, controlling, organising and dissemination of work packages.
  • Preparation of formal calculations in accordance with relevant international and local codes and standards, the Company’s Technical Manuals and Client specific requirements.
  • Ensuring legal compliance of designs to relevant codes, standards and Statutory requirements and the securing and collation of documentary proof of same.
  • Management and direction of Drawing Office inputs on proposals and projects, to ensure that prepared drawings reflect and comply with design intent and requirements.
  • Ensure the preparation of general arrangements and detail fabrication drawings are appropriately executed via the Drawing Office.
  • Preparation of technical requisitions and specifications for supplied equipment and services, to facilitate the precise procurement of materials and services.
  • The adjudication of received quotations to ensure best technical acceptability of offered equipment/services.
  • Ensuring that all design and technical documentation is registered, updated, distributed and stored in a controlled and retrievable manner in accordance with the Company’s Standard Procedures.
  • Review of all design work carried out to ensure best cost effectiveness of the chosen solutions, whilst fully complying with performance, health and safety requirements.
  • Integration of new and updated designs into existing plant.
  • Controlling and documenting design and technical changes during project development.
  • Auditing of as-built designs and systems.
  • Boiler plant inspections and subsequent reporting on findings.
  • Failure and root cause analysis of failed or damaged components.
  • The control of expended hours to ensure cost effectiveness and to manage resources within the allocated budget.
  • Provision of the required support to Management, Projects and Sales Departments.
  • Liaison with Clients to provide and obtain all necessary technical information.
  • Reporting to the Project Team on the status of all outstanding issues or any potential problems with cost or programme implications.
  • The identification of technical risk and possible mitigation and immediate reporting of same to the Engineering Project Team and Management.
  • Control, support and guidance of any Design, Junior or Trainee Engineers, placed under the Senior Design Engineers supervision; ensuring conformance to specification, discipline and adherence to man hour allocations.
  • Assist in training engineers in the execution of designs and their development, with problem solving processes and in exposure to available field opportunities.
  • Supporting the Mechanical Team Lead in achieving the overall team objectives.
  • Assisting in the continuous development of relevant Standard Practices and an awareness of new Statutory Legislation which may impact on the group activities.
