Damelin Port Elizabeth has the following position available at their campus in Walmer:
Librarian
Main Purpose of the Job:
The librarian manages the resources and controls all the functions of Library according to institutional policy and quality measures. He/she assists with student workshops and hosts research methodology forums as part of academic support. The librarian ensures student academic well-being and offers support with projects and assignments as well as exam readiness.
 
Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Operational Library Management
• Stock control of all resources [hard copy books; periodicals, articles, electronic books, Ebsco subscription passwords, electronic data-bases, CD’s and other media. All physical assets must be entered into ICAS.
• A separate asset register must be updated and maintained, listing all physical and digital assets kept in library.
• Security measures must be implemented and enforced by librarian to avoid stock loss.
• An information classification system like Dewey must be applied to media resources so that information can be readily located. Posters must educate and inform students on how to access the classification method.
• The librarian must be abreast of the programmes offered and the student numbers at all times. This will inform the running and acquisitions of the library in terms of meeting the needs of all students. The library must serve as information central and should house the collective intelligence of the campus.
• Policies pertaining to lending must be strictly adhered to.
• Librarian must be aware of student number projections in order to prepare orders for additional resources.
• Librarian must send out communications regarding resource centre activities via the available platforms on campus.
 
2. Academic Support Initiatives
• Librarian must organize and host in conjunction with academic manager/programme co-ordinators a series of student support workshops. These include but are not limited to academic writing, plagiarism and research methodologies.
• Workshops and support interventions will be scheduled with academic manager and initiated by librarian.
 
3. Digital Enhancement for Learning
• Online data-bases as well as electronic resources must be sourced for the specific disciplines and students informed on how to access or find such information.
• The library space must allow students access to the internet.
• Social network platforms can be harnessed to encourage positive group learning and curriculum enhancement.
 
Job Requirements:
-Diploma or Degree in information science, communication, multimedia or the arts (NQF Level 6-7).
-3-5 years’ experience in education or library management.
-High level of competency in MS Offices, particularly Word, Excel.
-Digitally competent online.
