DCS Technician
Sappi Ngodwana seeks to place a DCS Technician to limit downtime by solving problems on equipment. Electrical / electronic / instrumentation plant support on technical detail levels higher than that of an artisan and Foreman
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist Master and Snr DCS Technician (where relevant) with investigations to supply recommendations concerning: Improvement of any electrical / electronic / instrumentation equipment and preventative actions.
- Initiate, manage and complete projects
- Perform fault finding on equipment and repair thereof up to card and component level.
- Perform Calibration and optimization of equipment.
- Manage development of new installation of projects, assisting Master & Snr Technicians with. commissioning, quality control to ensure standards, equipment choices, design techniques and ensuring the availability of proper documentation.
- Assist with solving everyday Plant problems having a complexity that reaches beyond the trained knowledge of Artisans and Foreman, decreasing Plant downtime. Using specialized techniques with the aid of specialized measuring equipment.
- Ensure high standard of work done by inspecting and commissioning plant modifications under supervision of Technicians.
- Calibrate and optimise equipment to ensure absolute maximum benefit of equipment.
- High understanding of Proportional, Integral and Derivative (PID) control and sequencing
- Understand and have a working knowledge of coding aspects on DCS or PLC, ability to write and interpret PLC languages / programmes
- Find faults on equipment up to card level and depending on availability of the relevant electronic card, finding the cause of the problem up to component level and repairing it.
- Identify Training requirements needed by Artisans and Foremen in the everyday on the job environment.
- Ensure accurate and dependable documentation updates.
- Assist Production with Process fault finding.Participate in Hazop meetings for new Projects

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE
- National Diploma or B.Tech in Electrical Engineering Light Current with the focus on Process Control Instrumentation, PLC and DCS with 5 years’ experience
- National Diploma in Electrical Engineering Light Current with a Trade Test in Instrumentation with 3 years as an Instrument Technician or DCS Technician
- Information Technology knowledge and experience will be advantageous
