The Accountancy Studies Unit is currently seeking applications from academics for teaching undergraduate and postgraduate units (CTA level) on the SAICA accredited programmes.
Reports to: Head of Accountancy Studies
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent is required to work independently under minimal supervision and be responsible for:
- Lecturing in Accountancy studies at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level and curriculum development in one or more of the following fields:
- Financial Accounting
- Management Accounting and Financial Management
- Taxation
- Corporate Governance and Audit
- Academic leadership, programme management and coordination;
- Contribute to the leadership of the department in collaboration with the Head of Accountancy studies;
- Foster and promote high-quality teaching and learning, research and community engagement;
- Conducting of research that results in peer-reviewed publications in quality journals/books;
- Facilitating the professional accreditation process and alignment of the Competency Framework;
- Participation in the curriculum design and redesign of new and existing units, including development of unit materials, as well as on-line and web-based teaching and learning activities;
- Strong professional and academic networking;
- Marking and grading of student assessments;
- Providing study guidance, learning support, consultation, mentoring and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students;
- Unit coordination and quality assurance;
- Mentoring and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students;
- Assisting with unit coordination and administrative functions connected to the units being taught; Involvement at departmental, school and/or campus level in committees/workshops/task groups; and
- Other duties as required.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:
Senior Lecturer/Lecturer
- CA(SA);
- MCom (or nearly completed) OR Equivalent;
- Proven excellence in teaching; research and community engagement;
- A well-established research reputation;
- Technical ability in the subject field;
- At least 5 years’ experience at a SAICA accredited contact university for Senior Lecturer and 3 to 5 years for Lecturer;
- Ability to teach, mentor and supervise academic activities at undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
- Experience in curriculum design and development;
- Demonstrated capacity to coordinate units, and conduct relevant unit administration activities;
- Expertise in E-learning methods;
- Involvement with professional bodies;
- Highly developed skills of leadership, networking and management;
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills; and
- The potential to develop into a scholar in the discipline.
