DUT Hospitality Management Student All Set To Work In Abu Dhabi

The Durban University of Technology’s Mbalenhle Majola will be jetting off for Abu Dhabi on Saturday, 14 of October 2024.
The Umkomaas lass is all set to spend the next six months of her Work Intergraded Learning (WIL) at the prestigious Park Hyatt Hotel restaurant in Saadiyat Island Abu Dhabi.
After a long journey of security scrutiny with her WIL coordinator, the enthusiastic Majola is very excited to be given the opportunity to experience working in the Arab hospitality sector.
“This is only the beginning, I can’t wait to learn more and see how they do things and hopefully learn enough to bring that back to South Africa,” said Majola excitedly.
The outspoken Majola hopes to go into the local South African tourism industry with an open mind after her international stint in hospitality and tourism.
“One never thinks that being raised by a single in a small town, I would be going to such great heights, but I have,” she added.
Apart from her mother’s encouragements to always seek help and guidance from her lecturers, Majola also appreciates the patience and support given by her DUT lecturers.
“I think spending most of my time studying has vastly contributed towards this achievement because in my first year of study I was not really academically-inclined in achieving good results and being part of any hospitality group, but somehow I came on track and this is the result,” said Majola.
Third year WIL coordinator and lecturer, Jaya Naidoo said that he was excited to have mentored Majola for the past four years.
“She’s really a great kid, sometimes I don’t tell them they are great until the very end as I want them to push for the best,” said Naidoo.
He added that as a department they live up to their slogan which is “We are the best” and his personal favorite being: “We are not problem kids, we are solution kids.”
Naidoo said Majola was one of those students who worked hard and was fully prepared for the next six months work experience.
