Another Gold Haul For UP TuksLaw Mooters In 2024
TuksLaw is proud to announce that their team consisting of Nicholas Herd (LLB I) and Motloung Sebola (LLB I (post BA)), and coached by Devan Falconer (BCom LLB III), walked away as overall winners of the 8th Annual Child Law Moot Court Competition.
The Centre for Child Law in the Faculty of Law at the University of Pretoria hosted the competition, which aims to develop awareness of children’s rights and to familiarise law students with specific issues pertaining to child law, on 13 and 14 October 2024. Eight universities, namely the University of the Witwatersrand, University of the Free State, University of Cape Town, University of South Africa, University of Pretoria, North West University, Rhodes University and the University of Johannesburg participated in the competition.
The final round of the competition was held at the High Court of South Africa in Court Room C of the Palace of Justice in Pretoria. This room was selected because of its historical significance as the court room in which the Rivonia trial was held.
The University of Cape Town and University of Pretoria made it to the final round. The two teams argued in front of Judge Tolmay of the High Court, Pretoria, Judge Kollapen of the High Court, Pretoria (currently acting at the Constitutional Court), and Ms Corlett Letlojane the Executive Director of the Human Rights Institute of South Africa.
It is the first time that UP has won the competition since 2012.
