Orange Babies is a charitable foundation dedicated to preventing mother to child transmission of HIV and assisting children infected and affected by HIV and / or AIDS in Southern Africa.
Job Title: Midwife
Location: Johannesburg
Salary: R20 000 monthly, non-negotiable
The purpose of the position is to run the Mother and Child health centre together with another nurse, providing antenatal, postnatal and child health care. Education is a large part of the responsibilities. A strong will to work in the community without judgement, but openness to women and children and willingness to help in different situations and educate women and children on many levels is required.
Responsibilities:
- Provide antenatal, postnatal, and child health care
- Run support groups for pregnant women and for mothers and have educational sessions with adolescent girls/boys around sexual health
- Computer literacy work with Excel, entering and processing statistics for the centre
- Clinic management
- Examine and monitor of pregnant women on their maternal journey
- Intake of the client and assessment of client’s vital signs
- Assess care requirements and writing care plans
- Conduct home visits for postnatal mother and baby e.g. identifying complicated cases, nutritional status of the mother and child etc
- Recruit pregnant women to the MCHC
- Keep daily attendance registers and managing patient information
- Arrange schedule in line with admin and practical responsibilities
- Provide weekly stats sheets in the manner required and communicated to you by the Project Manager
- Write referrals for clients where clients need further testing or treatment and conducting follow ups
- Provide information and emotional support to young girls/ mothers / pregnant women and their partners, as well as implementing relevant support groups
- Re-order stock items and performing regular stocktaking to identify minimum levels of items
- Maintain client confidentiality at all times
- Ensure that the MCHC is kept clean and hygienic according to health standard
- A strong will to work in the community without judgement, but openness to women and children and willingness to help in different situations
- Educate women and children on many levels
Requirements:
- Nursing certificate
- Registered professional nurse with SANC
- Midwife certificate
- Training in HIV testing and counselling (preferably)
- Minimum of two years practising as a midwife
- Planning and organising skills, verbal and written skills
- Communication skills and ability to work in a multi-cultural environmentAbility to delegate and work independently
- Respect community members
- English (fluent spoken/written)
- IsiZulu (preferably)
