2024 Communications & Advocacy Intern Programme at IJR

IJR seeks to appoint a Communications & Advocacy Intern, to be based in Cape Town. The purpose of the Communications Intern is to assist the Communications and Advocacy team with internal communications, media monitoring, online profiling of the Institute and monitoring and evaluation, as well as ad hoc tasks that may arise, including events management.

About 
The Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IJR) was founded in 2000, in the wake of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and with the purpose of building of fair, democratic and inclusive societies in Africa. IRJ is an independent organisation located at the interface between civil society and academia.
Responsibilities:

  • Assist with content for the organisational newsletter
  • Update and report on IJR ‘news and events’
  • Assist with marketing and branding
  • Assist with the development of online campaigns and messages
  • Conduct media monitoring and produce media clippings
  • Conduct media research and Google analytics
  • Assist with website and social media updates
  • Assist with media relations
  • Assist with adhoc programme and administration tasks
  • Assist with event planning and logistics
  • Work across the spectrum of communication tasks which will include social media marketing, media relations media tracking/monitoring, photography, website management and events management among others

Requirements:

  • Diploma, BA in Marketing, Communications or Journalism
  • Writing skills in English and preferably another South African language
  • Computer literacyMicrosoft Office
  • Understanding of the usage of social media for organisations
  • Decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Confidence

  • Creative and pro-active

Duration: 11 months (15th January – 15th December 2024)
Working hours: 36 hours/week
