About the Position
SARAO has an opportunity for an Administration Officer to join our team in the Communications department reporting to the Science Communications Editor. The main purpose of this position is in support of the overall SARAO Communication Strategy, to provide the necessary logistical and administrative support within the unit. The incumbent will be responsible to support through assisting with the project management, evaluation and monitoring of the implementations/ programmes/ projects in the Communications unit. He/she will liaise and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders in support of the implementations/ programmes/ projects in the Unit.
Minimum education requirement:
- Matric
Minimum work experience required:
- 5 (five) years in project management and event coordination
- Must have a Code 8/B driver’s licence and be willing to travel as required
Desirable additional educational, work experience, and personal qualities:
- Project Management Diploma (3 year qualification NQF5)
- Ability to provide an administrative function in support of a number of projects, often run concurrently
- Excellent verbal and inter-personal skills
- Ability to work under tight deadlines
- Excellent computer skills
- Event and project management
- Stakeholder engagement
- Overall administrative support including travel arrangements
- Supply Chain Management processes and procedures
- Will be required to manage the SARAO reception desk as needed
The ideal candidate will have the following competencies: Ability to:
- communicate clearly and in a professional manner to a range of stakeholders
- maintain filing systems (both electronic and paper-based filing)
- plan and manage timelines for various projects
Experience in:
- filing and general office administration
- administrative processes in a research or academic environment
- organising events, workshops or conferences
Knowledge of:
- excellent knowledge of Google docs, Microsoft Office, Email, Calendar systems and Internet
- the higher education landscape in South Africa
About The Employer
