Salary: R504 823 – R628 029 pa (All-inclusive package)
UFH Libraries invite suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Senior Librarian Bibliographic/Technical Services.
THE MAIN PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION IS:
- To lead, manage and co-ordinate the operations and administration of the Technical Services’ units of the Library: Acquisitions, Cataloguing, Periodicals, and ILL.
- To provide leadership in the evaluation of the Library’s collections and technical services
- To effectively and efficiently lead and maintain effective management of the Library’s resources
- To ensure ready access to information in support of the Library’s vision and mission.
- To assess the suitability of donated books
- To develop, implement and evaluate the policies for the Technical Services’ units.
- To identify lacunae in the collection and motivate for additional budget to fill those lacunae
THE INCUMBENT WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
- Management of the section
- Collection Development
- Financial Management at section level
- Write section reports
- Policy development at section level
- Marketing of library services
- Service delivery
- Takes active part in professional association activities and keeps abreast of library trends.
Requirements:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- An Honours degree in Library and Information Services Or Relevant Post Graduate Qualification in Library and Information Science
- 5+ Relevant Experience in Academic Libraries
- 5 years Management Experience
- Sound knowledge of budgeting
- Exposure to electronic library environment.
KEY COMPETENCIES:
- Knowledge & contextual understanding of technical services section and current trends
- Knowledge and experience of best practice in academic library technical services
- Excellent analytical ability to understand the content of documents and the context in which they were created
- Sound knowledge and understanding of performance measurement and evaluation in academic libraries
- Knowledge & understanding of higher education in South Africa
- Sound knowledge and understanding of ICT practices, applications & tools in academic and research libraries
- Experience and understanding of marketing and promoting library services in a university environment
- Library ICT landscape
- Budgeting
