ABSA gives R3million scholarship to MUT Students
ABSA has given a scholarship of R3 million for 2024 to deserving MUT students. The scholarship, which was the bank’s initiative, will cover all three faculties. It is performance driven. Faisal Mkhize, Managing Executive, ABSA, KwaZulu-Natal, said the primary reason for them helping the students with such funds was their long-term view. Handing over the cheque on 22 June 2024, to the University Council Chair, Justice Jerome Ngwenya, Mkhize said: “For the economy’s future to be secure, we need to invest in the youth. We need to guarantee the future by investing in skills to sustain the economy in the long run. The banking sector has all kinds of careers that is why we are covering all faculties at MUT.” The students will be selected by MUT’s Financial Aid Office (FAO), according to ABSA specifications. FAO’s Manager, Andrew Kubone, said the much appreciated aid from ABSA would increase the number of students who receive corporate bursaries.
ABSA will also extend the same scholarship to DUT, UniZulu, and UKZN. But the figures may vary.
