The BALE Scholarship Programme
Bale’ is a Southern Sotho word meaning a group of woman initiatives in higher education. The Bale undergraduate scholarship programme aimed to promote access to higher education in the fields of science and engineering for academically talented black women from disadvantaged backgrounds. In 2013 eight post-graduate students had been selected and funded for their honours degrees. All eight students have completed their honours degree with five students currently completing their Masters degrees. These young women will be monitored for three to five years after graduation. They are also encouraged to be mentors to first year university students.
